Matt Murdock (Daredevil) faces trouble when three villains known as the Unholy Three (Cat Man, Ape Man, and Bird Man) are released from prison and immediately start a new wave of criminal activity. During a nighttime robbery, Daredevil confronts them but is overpowered and forced to let them escape.

Meanwhile, in his civilian life, Matt deals with personal and professional pressure — his partner Foggy Nelson is worried about the effect dating an ex‑convict (Debbie Harris) could have on his campaign for District Attorney. 

Their criminal machinations get more chilling when we meet their employer, the Exterminator, who has invented the T‑Ray, a time‑displacement device that can send people into a limbo‑dimension. The Unholy Three are given T‑Ray handguns to terrorize the city and blackmail Foggy. At a nightclub, they attack Debbie Harris with the T‑Ray, displacing her (seemingly making her vanish), which causes Foggy to believe she may have been killed, and prompts him to urge Matt to act as Daredevil. But Matt’s heightened senses reveal that despite appearances, Debbie is still alive — just not in the same “reality.”
