• The special is a one‑shot (double‑sized) issue that delves into the earlier history of Skull Island. It presents a “new look” at the myths/lore of the island. 

• The story is framed as a letter from a man named Dagr addressed to Gudrun, the wife of a Viking expedition leader. 

• Key characters: Gudrun is a red‑haired Norse / Viking leader (or at least warrior), strong, ambitious, and determined. Dagr is a subordinate / chronicler in this expedition.

• The expedition lands on Skull Island (referred in old Norse as “Andlátland,” meaning “Land of Death”) expecting riches but running into monstrous dangers: reptilian creatures, Pteranodons, and eventually Kong himself. The Vikings try to exploit the island — hunting or conquering — but face great losses. 

• Gudrun’s relationship with Kong is complex: she both fears and reveres him; she tries to use him (or her bond with him) as a weapon/resource; others warn of hubris. 

• The storyline explores themes of conquest, respect vs. exploitation of nature, the cost of obsession, and what happens when mankind tries to control the uncontrollable.
