Content & Plot Highlights
This issue is a monster / sci‑fi horror / weird‑adventure anthology, with the lead story involving:
-
A Russian scientist (Professor Boris Tchaikon) who figures out how to grow living tissue using cell growth techniques. He acquires DNA from Konga, and creates a female counterpart (a giant female ape) named Torga to be Konga’s mate.
-
The plan is for the Russian officer to unleash Konga and Torga on San Francisco, as part of a plot to distract or cause havoc while nuclear secrets are stolen.
-
Torga turns out to be very aggressive; in the attack, she causes destruction in the city but is ultimately killed by an errant missile launched from a Russian submarine. Konga, grief‑stricken, departs. The Russian submarine is captured by the American military.
In addition to the main story, the issue includes a few shorter backup tales:
-
One called Across the Time Gap (≈ 6 pages), in which an astronaut needs to retrieve a military capsule on a small island, is ambushed by Soviets, and is saved by Konga.
-
Another titled The Monster Hunter (also ~6 pages), about a big‑game hunter who enters a jungle, is captured by a giant jaguar and other oversized beasts, learns something about empathy for nature, and escapes.
Cover is detached.
