New Threat / Hero: This issue introduces Walter Newell’s “Stingray” — a new costumed hero (or perceived hero) with an exoskeletal suit capable of underwater action.
Namor’s Weakness: Namor (the Sub‑Mariner) discovers that he has lost two core abilities: the ability to fly and the ability to breathe underwater. This renders him vulnerable.
Conflict with Stingray: Namor is caught by surprise and is captured by Stingray, who turns him over to the authorities.
Escape and Confrontation: Namor escapes, but Stingray pursues him, believing Namor to be dangerous. Eventually—through dialogue and Namor’s actions—Stingray begins to be convinced that Namor isn’t the threat the government made him out to be.
