In Rawhide Kid #28, titled “Doom in the Desert!”, Johnny Bart — the Rawhide Kid — faces one of his most dangerous challenges yet when a ruthless predator (or group of enemies) sets a trap for him in the harsh desert wastes. While operating in terrain that favors ambush, Bart is pushed to his limits: deprived of the more forgiving terrain of towns or open plains, he must rely on wit, perseverance and tactical thinking rather than just quick draw and grit. The desert's remoteness magnifies both physical hardships and the isolation of the Kid, making every encounter more deadly.

In addition to the titular main story, the issue includes backup and text stories that explore classic Western themes: betrayal, moral choices, and the contrast between reputation versus true character. The Rawhide Kid must deal with adversity not only from external threats — outlaws, natural dangers — but also social ones: townsfolk's biases, underestimation of his abilities, and the weight of living up to his legendary status. By the end, the Kid triumphs by using resourcefulness, showing that courage and integrity in the Wild West depend on more than just fast guns.
